During this week's Wednesday blog banter, we discussed how English class can be interpreted as a popularity contest. Ms. Serensky seemed particularly disturbed because there was no way to quantify the popularity, but we all agreed that it exists. Everyone should agree that school itself is a popularity contest. We all support our friends, and so the individuals with the most friends get the most support. Or so one would think. AP English popularity is apparently different, and requires either wasting a large percent of your life in English-related pursuits or being able to BS really, really well. So what makes the most popular English student? A keen sense of humor? Astounding intellect? Pure chance?
Never fear. I have devised a flowchart to help you figure it all out.
Hopefully this handy flowchart helped you on your journey to becoming the most popular student, or helped you to discover that you already are.
In case you skipped over the flowchart due to a short attention span, here are some one-step ways to tell if you are, indeed, Most Popular.
- Have you submitted to Prism? ---> Most Popular
- Are you Marc Golsmith? ---> not a chance
Sorry Marc.
Sarah, this is brilliant. The chart is very funny and I must say that I am actually very popular, according to your chart. But anyway, I agree that high school in general is a popularity contest, life in general is. However, English class seems to be more successful at putting popularity aside than other aspects of school. We may have a contest going in the class, but we have very different standards for “popularity.” In English, intelligence and wit seem much more important than some other places.
ReplyDeleteHello, Sarah! As usual, your blog was fabulous! Except for one little detail- up until this point, I had been able to accept my failure when it comes to blog banter appearances. In fact, I have never been part of this prestigious group. Thanks for making me feel wonderful about myself! On a brighter note, speaking honestly, your chart was wildly entertaining, and I love how personalized your blog is, from your background to the images you create and add to your posts. I love seeing what you add each week!
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah greenlaw you make me laugh week after week! I hope the only commenting on people once rule is not still intact! I am not popular, I actually suck according to this chart. I sometimes think of Ms. Serensky as being the head honcho of the senior class. People do suck up to her slash get on her good side as if she is the barbie senior everyone loves! I think she just loves observing us in awkward situation, personally. But, I do try to be humorous in class, start conversations when I get there early and such. I just don't have a commons where we sit and gab about "Its always sunny in Philedelphia", an obsession I assume we have in common. I also lack extreme efforts (Thomas) that she can mock. I dont turn apple red (sam) so she can giggle. I seem to be missing the extreme artistic abilities that impress her. I don't have a twin in the same class to constantly glare at! I am altogether a forgettable student I fear! I will have to become a bit more wacky in the fourth quarter!
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious, considering what happened first period. I love the fact that I got "Popular," despite the fact that you told me it was unlikely.
ReplyDeleteRight after this happened, Sarah added in "Are you Marc Golsmith? Yes? You'll never be popular." Essentially, Sarah is jealous of my popularity.
On a more serious note, this flowchart is awesome. The outcomes are funny (my favorite being "forever alone") and the questions involved stuff that happens almost every day. I'm sure Thomas got "Popular," although he might have failed at the last question.
